Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) is pleased to announce the inaugural edition of its scholarship beneficiaries Homecoming, scheduled for 16th December 2025 at the Foundation’s Secretariat at Ntotroso. This event is designed to bring together all past and present scholarship beneficiaries to celebrate achievements, reconnect, and explore collaborative opportunities for advancing development in the Communities and the Ahafo Region as a whole.
The Homecoming marks a historic milestone in NADeF’s journey as one of Ghana’s most respected Corporate and Community Foundation model. It celebrates over seventeen years of sustained impact, made possible through a visionary partnership between Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) and the Ahafo Social Responsibility Forum (ASRF).
The Homecoming event will highlight this transformative journey, showcasing beneficiaries who are now serving as doctors, nurses, engineers, ICT specialists, teachers, artisans, and entrepreneurs in Ghana and beyond. Many of NADeF’s graduates now hold strategic leadership roles in public service, academia, and industry.
At the heart of NADeF’s work is its investment in human resource development. To date, NADeF has dedicated GH¢42.8 million to scholarships and capacity-building initiatives, supporting 14,307 young people across the ten host communities.
These beneficiaries include 7,855 males (54.90%) and 6,452 females (45.10%), demonstrating NADeF’s commitment to gender inclusion and equitable development. The Foundation has supported 7,862 students at the tertiary level, enabling them to pursue degrees, diplomas, and professional qualifications in diverse fields.
“These numbers are not just statistics,” NADeF’s Executive Secretary, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, emphasizes. “They represent transformed lives, strengthened families, and communities whose horizons continue to expand.”
“This Homecoming is more than a ceremonial occasion. It is a powerful platform to bring our beneficiaries together to reconnect, share experiences, explore opportunities, and build collaborations that can transform our communities. Our hope is that by the end of the day, many new ideas and partnerships would have been born, initiatives that will drive the next phase of Ahafo’s development story.”
Beneficiaries attending the program will also be reminded of the critical role they play in sustaining the Foundation’s legacy. NADeF describes its scholarship recipients as its “true legacy,” urging them to remember their roots, give back to their communities, and continue paving the way for future generations.
The Foundation encourages beneficiaries living outside the region or abroad to join the program as part of a growing alumni network committed to driving development in Ahafo.
The December 16, 2025, event is expected to set in motion a renewed cycle of beneficiary engagement, collaboration, and community impact, anchoring NADeF’s belief that sustainable development is strongest when the people empowered by it become active contributors to their own community’s progress.
About NADeF
The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) is the main social responsibility driver of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) within its ten Ahafo mine host communities. We collaborate with NGGL’s host communities, local government agencies, and other development partners to drive sustainable development within our beneficiary communities. We do this through support in education, health, water and sanitation, economic empowerment, and sports.
NADeF was established in 2008 as a result of an agreement between NGGL and the multi-stakeholder group, the Ahafo Social Responsibility Forum (ASRF). The Foundation operates within the Asutifi North district and Tano North Municipality by working specifically with the following communities and their satellite towns– Kenyasi No.1, Kenyasi No.2, Ntotroso, Gyedu, Wamahinso, Yamfo, Susuanso, Afrisipakrom, Terchire, and Adrobaa.
Our operations are funded by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited through its financial commitment of US$1 per every ounce of gold produced and 1% of annual net pre-tax profit from the Ahafo Mine operations. To date, NADeF has received GHc360 Million as contributions from Newmont.
Since 2020, Newmont has, in addition to the above financial contributions, committed US$300,000.00 per annum for the development of cross-community projects that would create employment and return on investments.
